STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON THE UE OF YOUTUBE IN LEARNING ENGLISH DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract


This research was conducted to know students’ perception on the use of Youtube in learning English in Pandemic era. The researcher applied qualitative descriptive methods to achieve the research objectives. The data collected in this research were in the form of interview. The participants of this research were the students of UPT SPF SMPN 51 Makassar as the informants. The interview sample was 10 students, using purposive sampling technique. Based on the results of the study, YouTube can help students to learning English during The Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, students also face some challenges in using YouTube as a media in The Covid-19 pandemic. The result of the finding indicated that students have three dimension in their perception of Youtube in learning English during the Covid-19 pandemic. In understanding, students can understand the materials and practice their abilities in vocabulary and listening skills in view, students opinion that Youtube is an application that helps them to learn English. In action, students learning behaviors changes in understanding English material. Then, the students perceive that their vocabulary increase and the way they pronounce words be better using Youtube. This indicates that students’ perceive that learning English using Youtube can improve syudents’ understanding of learning material during pandemic.
