Abstract


The researcher focuses to find out the effect of semantic mapping on students’ mastery of the vocabulary of Standard Maritime Communication Phrases (SMCP), to find out whether the semantic mapping improves the students’ interest in learning vocabulary of SMCP. This research applied a quantitative method by applying a quasi-experiment. This research was conducted at Katangka Merchant Marine School. The subjects of this study were thirty four students at the fourth semester of Nautical and Engineering classes whom were selected by purposive sampling technique. This research was obtained by using vocabulary test and questionnaire. The results of the research indicate that the semantic mapping has a significant effect, the students show a great enthusiasm during the lesson, Teaching by using semantic mapping could be  positive enforcement, students’ interest improved.
