Abstract


Social competence is needed by teenagers to form good relationships with the social environment, not all teenagers have good social competence, poor social competence can lead to behavioral problems. Social competence is influenced by various factors, one of which is secure attachment. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between secure attachment and social competence in late adolescents in Makassar city. This study uses quantitative research methods. The sample of this research is 210 late teens in Makassar city who are 18-21 years old and live with their parents through the accidental sampling technique. The measuring instrument used is the social competence scale and the safe attachment scale. This research uses sperm analysis technique with the help of SPSS 22.0 for windows program. The results showed that the value between parental secure attachment and social competence in late adolescence was 0.366 with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.01). The coefficient value shows that there is a significant and positive relationship between parental secure attachment and social competence in late teens in Makassar. This explains that the higher the secure attachment, the higher the social competence of adolescents. The implications of this research for adolescents are as a source of reference for maintaining good relationships with parents.
