Improving the Ability of the Second Year Students of MTsN 2 Makassar in Writing Descriptive Paragraphs Through Questioning Technique

Abstract


The findings of the study indicated that the model of questioning technique can improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraphs. The improvement can be seen on the mean score of the students writing from pre- test conducted in preliminary study, post-test after implementing the questioning in the first cycle and the post-test after implementing the questioning in the second cycle. In pre-test, the students' mean score on writing test is only 5.2. In the test 1, it is 6.3. Meanwhile, in test 2, the mean score becomes 7.1. Besides, the questioning technique also can elicit the students` motivation in joining the process of writing activities in the classroom. The fact can seen on the students` response towards the distributed questionnaire to them. More than 75% of the students agreed that questioning technique was interesting technique. From the findings, the following suggestions are proposed: (1) the English teachers are recommended to consider the model of questioning technique or strategy developed in this study as one of many alternative technique that can be used in teaching writing descriptive paragraph for the Islamic and or junior high school; (2) The teachers should give series question for the students to produce sentences by providing a suitable picture related to the topic discussed; (3) students are recommended to practice writing descriptive paragraphs with various topics outside the class hours, using questioning technique implemented in the study; (4) the future researchers are recommended to conduct action research with different topic either in secondary or in elementary school.
