Ability to Read and Understand Arabic Discourse in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Students in Makassar City

Abstract


This research is a descriptive study that aims to obtain data about the level of reading comprehension of Arabic discourse among Grade VIII students of MTs Darul Istiqamah Makassar and to determine the influencing factors. Data collection was carried out by written tests and questionnaires. The population in this study were students of class VIII and the sample in this study were students of class VIII, which consisted of 10 students. Based on the analysis of the data, the results were obtained: the ability to read and understand the insights of Arabic for class VIII students of MTs Darul Isiqomah Makassar was 85.83% or included in the very good category. The factors that influence the ability to read and understand Arabic language discourse for class VIII MTs Darul Istiqamah Makassar are included in the good category consisting of internal and external factors. The internal factors that most influenced, namely 5 students (50.0%) said Arabic lessons were very important lessons, and the most influential external factors, namely 4 students (40.0%) said the way the teacher presented the main points regarding the discourse in reading lessons, their understanding was interesting and also 4 students (40.0%) said the time allocation for Arabic lessons at school was sufficient.
