The Application of the Discovery Learning Model to Improve Primary School Student Learning Outcomes

Abstract


The problem that is the background of this research is the low student learning outcomes in science learning for SD Makassar City students. This study aims to describe the application of the Discovery Learning model to improve science learning outcomes in fifth grade students. The approach used is a qualitative approach and a type of classroom action research (PTK) consisting of 2 cycles, where each cycle consists of 2 meetings with activity stages includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The focus of this research is the application of the Discovery Learning model and student learning outcomes. As for the subjects of research are teachers and students of Makassar City. In the odd semester of the 2021/2022 school year, a total of 15 people. Data collection uses the format of observation, tests, and documentation. The data analysis used is qualitative. The results showed that there was an increase in learning both in teacher and student activities and student learning outcomes. The conclusion of this study is that the teacher's teaching activities and student learning activities have increased, in cycle I meetings I and II are in the sufficient category (C) while in cycle II meetings I and II are in the good category (B). Student learning outcomes in cycle I with a percentage of 53.33% are in the less category (K) while in cycle II with a percentage of 93.33% student learning outcomes have increased to a good category (B) the application of the Discovery Learning model in science learning can improve student learning outcomes in Makassar City.
