The Influence of the Application of Problem Based Learning Models in Mathematics Learning on the Confidence Attitude of Elementary School Students in Makassar City

Abstract


This research was motivated by the low self-confidence of students to take an active role in the learning process, such as not having the courage to answer questions, feel awkward when they have to solve problem in front of the class. Independent variable in this research was the apply of the problem based learning model and the dependent variable was the students self-confidence. The population in this research was the fifth grade students, 51 in total, and selected by simple random sampling technique.  Data collection techniques are observation sheets, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis technique that used was descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis, consisting of normality test, homogenity test, and hypothesis test using independent sample t-test. Based on the research results, indicate that: (1) The description of problem based learning model usage was in the Good category. It cam be seen from the implementation of problem based learning model in treatment 1 by Enough category. And in treatment 2 it becomes in Good category. (2) The students self-confidence that obtained from experimental class is in the Good category, and the control class is in the Enough category. Students from experimental class are more confidence to do practice question, fewer students refuse when they get chance to answer, and able to work independently. (3) There is an effect of the problem based learning model usage in mathematics learning to the self-confidence of fifth grade confidence students SD Kompleks Perumnas. It was caused by tstatistics > ttabel (4,018 > 2,032).
