Application of Guided Inquiry Learning Model to Improve Higher-Level Thinking Skills of Elementary School Students

Abstract


The purpose of the study was to determine the improvement of students' higher order thinking skills in thematic learning through the application of the guided inquiry learning model in the fourth grade of SD Inpres Jonggowa, Kabupaten Gowa. This research is a classroom action research which consists of two cycles. Each cycle has four stages covering, planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The focus of this research is the application of the guided inquiry learning model and the improvement of higher order thinking skills. The subjects of this study were teachers and fourth grade students of SD Inpres Jonggowa, Kabupaten Gowa. This data collection technique is observation, test and documentation with qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate an increase in students' higher order thinking skills from the first cycle in the sufficient category and an increase in the good category in the second cycle. The conclusion of this study is that the application of the guided inquiry learning model can improve higher order thinking skills in thematic learning in fourth grade students of SD Inpres Jonggowa, Kabupaten Gowa.
