Evaluation of the Implementation of the Talking stick Type Cooperative Model on the Speaking Skills of Elementary School Students in Gowa District

Abstract


This study uses a quantitative approach with the type of experimental research in the form of Quasi Experimental Design which aims to determine whether there is an effect of the application of the speaking stick type cooperative learning model on the skills of third grade students of SDI Borongkaluku, Bontomarannu District, Gowa Regency. The independent variable in this study was the application of the speaking stick type cooperative learning model, while the variable applied was speaking skills. The population in this study was 52 students, while the sample was class IIIA students who collected 24 students as the experimental class, then class IIIB which collected 28 students as the control class. The data analysis technique used was descriptive statistical analysis consisting of pretest and posttest data for the experimental class and the control class and inferential statistics for data normality test, homogeneity test and data hypothesis testing using the Independent Sample T-Test technique. The results of statistical analysis showed that there was a difference in the speaking skills of the experimental class students after the talking stick model was applied, which was indicated by the average skill test results increasing after being given the talking stick model treatment. Therefore, there is an effect of the application of the cooperative speaking type model on the speaking skills of the third grade students of SDI Borongkaluku, Kecamatan Bontomarannu, Kabupaten Gowa.
