The Difficulties of High School Students in Learning Tenses in Bone District

Abstract


Tenses are the form of the verb (it can be verb itself or auxiliary verb) in English to show the time (past, present and future) the occurrence of an action or event. The purpose of this research is to find out the difficulties encountered by senior high school students in learning tenses, the factors that cause the senior high school students’ difficulties in learning tenses and the solutions to solve the senior high school students’ difficulties in learning tenses. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive qualitative design. The results of this study show that the difficulties encountered by the students in learning tenses come from the students’ perception, most of the students think that the tenses are difficult with their form, they difficult to distinguish the changes in verb1 to verb2 or verb3, also when used regular verb and irregular verb. Most of the students are influenced by external factors in difficulties in learning English, especially in tenses lessons. Every single student has a different character. So, it becomes the teacher must be a professional and creative teacher to achieve the success of the teaching and learning proses in the classroom like using the appropriate method, treating every student fairly, giving motivations, building good communication, and making comfortable learning atmosphere.
