Abstract

Carbohydrate loading, also known as "carb loading," is a nutritional strategy commonly practiced by athletes before an intense game or competition. The main goal of carbohydrate loading is to increase glycogen levels in the muscles and liver, which can be the main source of energy during prolonged strenuous physical activity.Glycogen is the body's storage form of glucose, and glucose itself is the main source of energy for the muscles and brain. When a person engages in intensive physical activity, such as long-distance running or bicycle racing, the body will use glycogen as fuel. Therefore, having sufficient glycogen availability can help improve an athlete's endurance and performance.
