Abstract

Moringa (Moringa olieviera Lam.) is a plant of the Moringacease family that is resistant to growth and is widely found in tropical and sub-tropical dry areas. In Indonesia, Moringa spreads from Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi to Papua. This plant is rich in nutrients, contains many vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, essential amino acids and other compounds that are needed by the body. All parts of the Moringa plant can be used, starting from the roots, stems, leaves, fruit and seeds. The problem faced is the lack of knowledge about the economic value and nutritional value of the Moringa plant so that it is not able to improve the family economy, especially poor families. As a result of poverty, families are less able to access adequate food both in quantity and nutritional content. Stunting is one of the effects of chronic malnutrition that occurs in the family. This research was conducted with an article review approach to journals or research proceedings that have been published. This method makes it easier and saves time to get data related to the research theme. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the incidence of stunting in children under five is generally found in poor families due to limited access to sufficient quantity and quality of food. Mother's knowledge related to exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding also greatly determines the occurrence of malnutrition which can cause stunting. Utilization of Moringa leaves as local food can help facilitate the production of breast milk and can be used as a fortification material for MP ASI with high nutritional content so that the nutritional needs for the growth and development process of children under five can be met. In the end, malnutrition that can result in stunting in children under five can be handled properly. Besides, Moringa also has high economic value because all parts of this plant can be utilized. So it has the potential to improve the family's economy if it is managed properly.
