Pengembangan “MisterDaeng”sebagai Merek Komik Lokal Khas Sulawesi Selatan

Abstract


MisterDaeng (MRDG) is a local creative comic brand that elevates the distinctive characters of Makassar and Sulawesi Selatan into various comic characters. MisterDaeng began with a local superhero character comic hunting from Makassar, a comic workshop which was initiated by several communities in collaboration with the Visual Communication Design Study Program, Faculty of Arts and Design (Fakultas Seni dan Desain, FSD), Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM), and #jamaahkreatifsektorselatan Creative Movements, in 2018. Some of the characters from this workshop were later merged into a comic universe called MisterDaeng, with the support of MakkoMikki Comic Lab, a comic division formed by the community. Through this Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) program, several comic characters from South Sulawesi that were produced through a comic workshop were then given a brand called MisterDaeng, then developed into several communication materials to start the process of building MisterDaeng as a typical local comic brand from South Sulawesi. The PKM process began with community facilitation to produce some better quality typical comic character, create a MisterDaeng visual identity that adopted the local identity of South Sulawesi, followed by assistance in brand awareness and media promotion development in the form of visual merchandising. This typical comic character, visual identity and some merchandise stuff design will later be combined with exhibitions and promotional events to build MisterDaeng as a typical superhero character and local comic brand from Makassar and Sulawesi Selatan on various occasions in the future.
