Abstract

Abstract: The innovations of learning media should follow technology’s advance, information, and communication. Audio-Visual Media (video) is an interesting learning media with pictures and texts. Based on the results of preliminary observations at SMA NEGERI 14 Luwu showed that in the learning process, teachers still rarely use video as a learning media, teachers mostly used another learning media that contain more text so that it seems less interesting and monotonous hence it affects students’ learning outcomes, learning motivation and their learning independence. The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of using of Audio Visual Media on Learning Biology towards students’ Motivation, Independence and Learning Outcomes of the Class XI IPA at SMA Negeri 14 Luwu. This research is a quasi-experimental research. The population of this research was all students of Class XI IPA at SMA NEGERI 14 LUWU 2018/2019. This research used purposive sampling technique in selecting two classes as the sample. The classes were XI IPA (1) which was taught by using Audio-Visual media learning media with the number of 37 students and class XI IPA (2) was taught without using audio-visual media with 37 students.  The relevant study that is the effects of using tutorial video as a learning media have been conducted by Muliana (2016), the results showed that: (i) the Biology learning outcomes of students in Class XI IPA at SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa who were taught by using video tutorial as a learning media averaged 71.9 in the high category, (ii) the Biology learning outcomes of students in Class XI IPA at SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa who were taught without using video tutorial averaged 51.6 in the moderate category,, (iii) Students’ learning independence of Class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa which were taught by using video tutorial as a learning media averaged 76.8 in the high category, (iv) Students’ learning independence of Class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa which were taught without using video tutorial as a learning media averaged 74.9 in the high category, ( v) There is an influence of using tutorial videos on the students’ learning outcomes of Class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa. (vi) There is no influence of using tutorial videos on the students’ learning independence of Class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Sungguminasa. Based on the results of that research, it can be concluded that the innovation of the use of learning media can be used to increase students’ learning motivation, learning independence and learning outcomes.
