Abstract


Abstract:    This research is a Classroom Action Research which aims to improve the learning outcomes of biology in class XI students through the application of Think Pair and Share (TPS) Cooperative learning to students in biology learning. The subjects of this study were 25th grade students in the 2017/2018 school year. This study uses written tests (multiple choice), observation sheets, and student responses given in the learning process. The procedure of this study consisted of two cycles, namely Cycle I and Cycle II, each of which was carried out 2 meetings. The stages of this research procedure are: (a) Planning phase, (b) Implementation phase, (c) Observation stage, and (d) Reflection stage. Data collection tools used were the final test of the first cycle, the final test of the second cycle and the observation sheet. Then the research data after applying the application of Think Pair and Share (TPS) Cooperative learning obtained were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively as follows: learning outcomes carried out for two cycles were identified that in cycle I obtained an average score of only 64.80 (mastery learning is only 40%) after categorized as in the category of lack, in the second cycle obtained an average score of 81.96 (mastery learning reached 92%) and after being categorized in the excellent category in other words experienced an increase in the acquisition of an average score average of 17.16 (mastery learning 52%). Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the application of Think Pair and Share (TPS) Cooperative learning is one way to improve student biology learning outcomes, increase motivation, activity and sense of responsibility and selfconfidence of students during the learning process. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of Think Pair and Share (TPS) Cooperative learning can improve learning outcomes in class XI students of SMA Negeri 4 Soppeng.
