Abstract


Abstract:  The article contains a study of the metacognitive knowledge theory in learning. Metacognition and high-level thinking skills activities are basic potentials that need to be developed in students. Metacognition is an important part of teaching and learning. Metacognition involves thinking about teaching, at the same time having an awareness of oneself as an actor in his environment. Students with strong metacognitive skills can identify concepts that they do not understand and choose the right approach to learning ideas, able to apply the chosen strategy, and modify their approach based on experience. Metacognitive skills are needed in the biology learning process to improve learning outcomes. One way to provide metacognition skills to students is to present learning with learning resources and learning methods that are able to improve metacognition skills. Therefore, to improve student learning through metacognition, we need to understand the important changes that occur when students acquire these skills and the stages in providing students with metacognitive skills.
