AN ANALYSIS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN LISTENING COMPREHENSION

Abstract


The aim of this study is to find out the difficulties faced by students in listening comprehension. This research used the descriptive qualitative method and was conducted at a senior high school in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Twenty-three students from the eleventh grade were selected as research subjects through a cluster random sampling technique. The data was obtained from a questionnaire and an interview. The results of the data analysis found that the students’ difficulties when doing listening comprehension are; lack of vocabulary, lack of concentration, lack of self-confidence, motivation, pronunciation, long spoken text, speed of speech, accent, less interest in English, poor quality, and inadequate facilities.
