TRANSFORMASI BAJU BODO (WAJU TOKKO) PADA MASYARAKAT BUGIS

Abstract

This research examines the transformation or changes that occur in the "baju bodo" (waju tokko), which is the traditional attire of the Bugis ethnic group, using the functionalism theory paradigm or a functional theory of culture proposed by Bronislaw Malinowski (1884-1942). This theory analyzes the functions of human culture. In addition to the concept of cultural functions, Malinowski also proposed ideas about cultural change and methodologies for researching, analyzing, and describing the processes of cultural change within a society. The findings of this study reveal that the "baju bodo" (waju tokko) has undergone changes influenced by the introduction of Islam to the Bugis community and other factors related to fashion, technology, and ongoing innovation. Consequently, the model, colors, and types of fabric used in the "baju bodo" (waju tokko) have experienced significant changes up to the present time.
