Abstract

Visuospatial arithmetic involves the integration of visuospatial skills with arithmetic abilities, playing a crucial role in mathematical cognition. Previous research has shown that visuospatial abilities can predict arithmetic skills. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the research trends on the visuospatial aspects of arithmetic using bibliometric analysis. The Scopus database was employed, restricting documents to journal articles in the field of Neuroscience written in English. The researchers conducted analyses of authors, institutions, countries, articles, and keywords with the assistance of Biblioshiny, which had previously undergone data cleaning. A total of 687 publications met the inclusion criteria and became the final articles analyzed. Bibliometric analysis reveals an increasing trend in research topics from 1947 to 2023. Notably, 2555 researchers from 673 institutions and 43 countries contributed to this topic, with the United States and China being the most productive countries in publishing articles. Two universities from China emerged as the major contributors to articles. Neuropsychologia stood out as the most productive and influential journal in this field. Researchers also divided the thematic map into four quadrants, each with a different interpretation. In general, the central keywords for this research topic were "arithmetic and fMRI" and "mental arithmetic and attention." Overall, the publication trend on the visuospatial aspects of arithmetic has increased, particularly in the last 12 years
