Abstract


The public’s outlook of the teacher as an exemplary figure becomes a burden and a task in teacher’s life, especially in making decisions. The phenomenon of single women is often found in working women, one of them work as a teacher. This study aims to determinate the influencing factors of mate selection in single female teacher. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected by interviewing two female teachers who were single. Based on the results of the research, female teachers set the criteria for a life mate who are faithful, responsible, have a permanent job, support career, able to protect, problem solver, accept her strengths and weaknesses, and love family. Female teachers set the criteria based on influencing factors of mate selection. Influencing factors of mate selection in single female teacher consist of two, namely internal and external factors. Internal factors are female teachers are not easy to trust others and failure in love. External factors that influence are parents criteria that too ideal, other people's experience of divorcement, and social outlook of teacher. The implication of this research refers to career women, especially female teachers, to carry out careers and marriages in harmony.
