Abstract

Prosocial behavior refers to any action that is advantageous in aiding others, without regard for the helper's motives, and has a direct or indirect impact on the helper. The objective of this research was to investigate the impact of gratitude on prosocial conduct among adolescent individuals residing in orphanages located in Makassar. The study's sample consisted of 98 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 21 who resided in orphanages located in Makassar. The study employed two research instruments, namely the prosocial behaviour scale and the gratitude scale, for the purpose of data collection. The methodology employed for the analysis of data involved the utilization of the simple linear regression technique. The obtained analysis results yielded a correlation coefficient of r = 0.389, which was found to be statistically significant at the p < 0.001 level. Based on the R value, the degree to which gratitude contributes to prosocial behavior is 15.1%. The findings suggest that the expression of gratitude has a significant impact on the inclination towards prosocial conduct among adolescents residing in orphanages located in Makassar. The study aims to furnish insights to adolescents residing in orphanages, with the objective of enhancing their prosocial conduct by means of gratitude.
