Abstract

Students with high GPA should be proud of the achievements that have been achieved, but this does not apply to students who experience an impostor tendency to think that these achievements were achieved due to sheer luck. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-esteem and impostor phenomenon in college students. The research method used is quantitative correlation with a total of 180 (N=180) UNM students who have a Grade Point Average (GPA) ≥ 3.00-4.00. The measuring tool uses an adaptation of the self-esteem scale and the imposter phenomenon. Data analysis technique used the Spearman rho test and Mann-Whitney. The results of this study indicate that there is a negative relationship (ρ=0.000 and r=-0.465) between self-esteem and the impostor phenomenon in UNM students and there is no difference in the impostor phenomenon in terms of gender (ρ=0.116). This research contributes to the field of psychology, especially social psychology related to self-esteem and the impostor phenomenon in college students.
