Abstract

Self-injury is a coping behavior that has a negative psychological and physical impact on an individual. The case of self-injuryin adolescent boys is increasing. Self-injury is an early indication of suicidal behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the dynamics ofbehavior self-injurymale adolescent. Subjects in this study were male adolescents who had done self-injuryseveral times in the past year. The number of research subjects was four people. The research method used by researchers is qualitative with a case study approach. The data analysis technique used is thematic data analysis. The results of the study proved that teenage boys did self-injurybecause of conflicts with their parents, broke up with their boyfriends, experienced bullying when they were still in school, and felt disappointed in themselves because of their mistakes. The form of behavior self-injurythat appears is hitting one's own body, cutting the skin with a sharp object, and pricking the skin with a pin. The impact that was felt after doing the self-injurywas a feeling of relief, satisfaction, pain, bleeding, and having a scar due to slicing the skin. The four participants had no problems interacting. The implication of this study is that an understanding of the dynamics ofbehavior self-injuryin male adolescents can help offenders to find better methods of reducing negative emotions.
