Abstract


Friendly relations will be faced with various conflicts which can harm the relations when do not forgive. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the big five personalities and forgiveness in friendship among students at the Makassar State University. The subjects of this study found 257 students at the Makassar State University (N=257, 210 women and 47 men). The sampling technique in this study is accidental sampling. The method used in this study is a quantitative method using the Big Five Personality Scale and the Forgiveness Scale. The data analysis technique used is Spearman correlation. The results of the research on hypothesis testing showed that the extraversion dimension had a positive relationship with forgiveness (r= 0.234 p= 0.000), the neurotic dimension had a negative relationship with forgiveness (r= -0.321 p= 0.000), the friendliness dimension had a positive relationship with forgiveness (r= 0.484 p= 0.000), the dimension of openness to experience has a positive relationship with forgiveness (r=0.398 p=0.000), the dimension of conscientiousness has a positive relationship with forgiveness (r=0.332 p=0.000). This research can be an input that the forgiveness that students give in friendship can be seen from the type of personality they have.
