Gambaran Ketidakpuasan Terhadap Bentuk Tubuh (Body Dissatisfaction) pada Pengguna Instagram

Abstract


This study focuses on what is felt and experienced by Instagram users and the consequences of dissatisfaction with body shape. This study uses a phenomenological approach. The research subjects were five people and were women, aged 18-24 years, using Instagram, experiencing dissatisfaction with body shape, and domiciled in Makassar. Data collection techniques using a scale and semi-structured interviews. The data analysis technique used interpretative phenomenological analysis. The results of data analysis showed that the five subjects of Instagram users gave rise to three aspects of dissatisfaction with body shape. First, negative body judgments as feeling ugly and too fat or thin. Second, avoiding social activities such as institutions and colleges. Third, body camouflage by using certain clothes and make-up. Subjects who experience dissatisfaction with body shape will result in the emergence behaviors like exercise and an unhealthy diet as a form of problem-focused coping strategy which if done continuously can cause eating disorders, feelings of sadness, thoughts of stopping to live, feeling guilty, and frustrated. The interventions that can be done are providing psychoeducation about body image perceptions, gratitude interventions, providing counseling, and behavioral therapy.
