Increasing Poetry Writing Ability through the Show Not Tell (SNT) Learning Method

Abstract

Abstract. This research aims to: (1) describe the planning of the poetry writing learning process using the Show Not Tell method for class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Selayar during the pandemic; (2) describe the implementation of the learning process for writing poetry texts using the Show Not Tell method for class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Selayar during the pandemic; (3) describe the increase in the results of the ability to write poetry texts using the Show Not Tell learning method for class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Selayar during the pandemic. This research is a Classroom Action Research. The research data are: (1) learning planning; (2) the implementation of learning; and (3) improvement of writing ability result. The research subjects were Indonesian language teachers and students of class X IPS 3 SMA Negeri 1 Selayar. Data collection techniques are: (1) observation; (2) student questionnaires; (3) poetry writing ability test. The analysis techniques are: (1) qualitative data analysis; and (2) quantitative data analysis. The results of the research produce descriptions that are specific to: (1) planning the learning process for writing poetry using the Show Not Tell method is carried out by preparing lesson plans, learning materials, learning activities using the Show Not Tell method, and other supporting instruments; (2) the implementation of the learning process for writing poetry texts that focuses on the performance of students and teachers in the learning process; (3) improving the results of poetry writing skills using the Show Not Tell method was successful in improving students' writing skills.
