Abstract

The root of the problem in this research is the low problem-solving ability of students in Junior High School. The solution to these problems is the MEAs-PSS Model, which aims to develop Problem-Solving abilities. The type of research used is experimental research, namely implementing the MEAs-PSS Model in learning mathematics to develop Problem-Solving abilities. The research design was carried out by a pre-experimental design with the type of One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population in the study were students of Junior High School in Makassar, the sample in this study were students of class VIII at Junior High School 6 Makassar. The results showed that the value of the problem-solving ability of students in the pre-test group obtained an average of 55.25 (low), with the results of the grouping categorization being at a low interval (73.00%). Furthermore, the implementation of the MEAs-PSS Model learning treatment was given for 6 meetings. The results obtained that the value of the problem-solving ability of the post-test group students showed an increase to 68.50 (medium), with the results of the grouping categorization being in the medium interval (97.00%). The inferential statistics of the Paired T-test obtained a t-count value of 7,197 with a probability value of 0.000> 0.05, so it is statistically significant to state that there is a difference in results between the post-test and pre-test scores. The analysis showed an increase in the value of problem-solving abilities from pre-test to post-test, which means that the MEAs-PSS model can effectively improve students' problem-solving ability. The results of observations of student activities in learning the MEAs-PSS Model are classified as active in discussing, collaborating, and highly motivated to find and solve problems. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the MEAs-PSS Model (1) can improve Problem-Solving abilities, (2) can increase students' activities in discussing and working together, and (3) can increase learning motivation to solve problems.
