Abstract
This qualitative descriptive study aims to describe the ability to understand early mathematical concepts in terms of the learning motivation of SMP Negeri 1 Bua students in the flat-sided geometry material. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII. A totaling 3 subjects. The research instrument is a learning motivation questionnaire and a concept understanding ability test. The results showed that subjects with high learning motivation in solving questions could meet 3 indicators of concept understanding. Subjects with moderate learning motivation were able to fulfill 2 indicators of concept understanding. Meanwhile, subjects with low learning motivation could only fulfill 1 indicator of concept understanding.
