Remedial Teaching to Solve Students' Errors in Learning Mathematics

Abstract


This qualitative descriptive study aims to determine the types of student errors in learning mathematics on the material of numbers and roots in class IX of SMP Negeri 7 Samarinda in the 2018/2019 academic year. The research subjects were students in grades IX SMP Negeri 7 Samarinda, with a total of 102 students. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documents. The instrument used is a question consisting of 7 questions. The results showed that the types of errors made by students when learning mathematics on the subject of numbers to powers and roots were types of errors in concepts, principles, operations, drawing conclusions, and arbitrary answers. The remedial teaching program designed to overcome these errors uses discussion, question and answer, assignment, and individual teaching. The remedial teaching provided can reduce errors made by students on the types of conceptual errors and arbitrary answers. So it can be concluded that remedial teaching can overcome students' mistakes in learning mathematics on the material of numbers with exponents and forms of roots in class IX of SMP Negeri 7 Samarinda in the 2018/2019 academic year.
