Abstract

Mathematical Communication is very important to demonstrate students thinking and share their ideas both orally and in writing. In learning mathematics, a student who already has the ability to understand mathematics is expected to be able to apply it in learning and everyday life and be able to communicate it. This study aims to (1) analyze the mathematical communication skills of high IQ students in solving straight line equations, (2) analyze the mathematical communication skills of moderate IQ students in solving straight line equations, (3) to analyze the mathematical communication skills of low IQ students in solving the equation of a straight line, against class X students. The subjects of this research were students of class X with class X IPA 1 who were chosen because they were the superior class. Subjects were taken by giving IQ tests to students of class X IPA 1, from which 3 research subjects were selected based on IQ levels. The instrument used is a written test of mathematical communication skills and interview guidelines. The result of this study shows that Subject who having a high IQ level are able to communicate orally and in writing. She works for her reasons and can apply various things about mathematics in her daily life. While that subject with moderate intelligence levels were still unable to express mathematical concepts by stating everyday events in symbols mathematics. Moreover, subject with a low IQ level, are only able to communicate verbally.
