Abstract

Abstract. The city's physical character is influenced by some aspects of the building, such as building material, configuration, orientation, and surrounding area. Building an envelope without any treatment is potentially inflicted effects on the environment. The direct effects are related to  conductivity, emissivity, reflectivity and radiation. They were considering Makassar as one of the dense cities and developing metropolitan cities in the world. It has a serious problem related to thermal comfort and Urban Heat Island. This research identified greening in Makassar's residential to reduce the Urban Heat Island effect, thus the energy consumption. The result indicates that the most considerable energy consumption reduction occurs with modifications in reflective building envelopes, the site's light surface, and strategically positioned vegetation around buildings. That is reduces cooling requirements for buildings and neighborhoods. Green design applications could have a significant effect on decreasing the temperatures and energy consumption of buildings.
