Abstract. This type of qualitative research is based on product design with the title "Designing Book Binding Tool Design through Function Engineering Methods", which aims to design a simple bookbinding tool design concept that can be used by students. The data that will be planned in analyzing the concept of home-based bookbinding tool design are student responses. The method used was a survey approach. To get the value of the function in the design of the bookbinding tool design, namely engineering several work systems on the tool so that it is more effectively used. The design of this book binding tool is based on several existing binding tools as well as existing products in this study. The instruments used are the first in the form of a questionnaire based on target needs and the second in the form of an exploration of design design drawings. Instruments in the form of visuals were deliberately made by researchers in order to obtain data from the target regarding how much the value of the function could support the design concept of the bookbinding tool to be made. Visual instruments are created through exploration of the functional elements in these tools. The conclusion in this study is the bookbinding tool design concept offered to the target can be used based on its function value.
