The Visions of Kindergarten Teachers on Art Education for Early Childhood

Abstract


This study aims to determine the views of Kindergarten teachers about (1) the importance of art education for early childhood, (2) the goals of fine arts education for early childhood, and (3) methods of learning fine arts education for early childhood. This type of research is classified as a qualitative survey to describe the vision of Kindergarten teachers towards fine arts education for early childhood. The informants in this study were 100 Kindergarten teachers in Makassar. The data collection techniques used were interviews and questionnaires. The data analysis used is an interactive analysis model with the stages of the data collection process, data reduction, data presentation, and verification/ conclusion. The results showed that Kindergarten teachers in Makassar argued that art education is very important to be taught for early childhood because through art education can develop physical/ physical and spiritual as well as children's skills through creative activities. The purpose of art education for early childhood is as a means of expression and developing talents and interests in the art field. The appropriate method used for fine arts education for early childhood in Kindergarten is one that is more child-centered, which gives children freedom to be creative, and which allows children to learn while playing. In order for visual arts education in Kindergarten to be carried out as expected, Kindergarten teachers should have sufficient insight into fine arts education for early childhood.
