Abstract

Abstract. The main objective of this study was to determine student responses and the effectiveness of using the Academic Writing teaching material model based on critical thinking skills with a problem solving approach. This research method is R & D. The significant test sample and the response to the application of the academic writing learning medium are English students who are FBS UNM. 30 samples representing the population were selected based on simple randomization from three English education classes. The results showed that the t-test is greater than the t-table, which means that there is a significant difference between before and after post-test. Student responses to the critical thinking-based academic writing learning model with a problem-based learning approach show that students are motivated and very understanding of the modules being taught. The conclusion of this research is that the learning model is significant for improving the competence of writing "academic writing" for English students of FBS UNM.
