Abstract


Abstract. This study stems from the assumption that the character building of students must use methods and strategies, especially teachers in interacting in class. Character education does not just form in students but there must be habituation so that students avoid negative things. To maximize and facilitate the process of forming character values in students, educators must be a bridge in learning activities. This is what the authors refer to in examining the role of teachers in the implementation of local wisdom-based character education values at SMP Negeri 2 Makassar. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of teachers in implementing the values of character education based on local wisdom at SMP Negeri 2 Makassar. This type of research is a type of qualitative research. Types of data in this study consisted of primary data and secondary data, with data collection techniques namely interview techniques, documentation and observation. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative technique. The results of this study indicate that the role of the teacher in the implementation of the values of character education at SMP Negeri 2 Makassar has five roles, namely: (1) the role of the teacher as an example, (2) the role of the teacher as an inspiration, (3) the role of the teacher as a motivator, (4) ) the role of the teacher as a dynamist and (5) the role of the teacher as an evaluator.
