The Influence of Smartphone Use Intensity on Nomophobia in Elementary School Children

Abstract


The use of a smartphone has two sides, namely positive and negative depending on the individual in using a smartphone. Positive use will gain knowledge, and ease in accessing information.  Meanwhile, negative use will cause addiction, causing anxiety in using a smartphone, this is called nomophobia. This study aims to determine the effect of the intensity of smartphone use on nomophobia in elementary school children using a quantitative survey approach with analytical techniques including: descriptive analysis and inferential analysis techniques with a total sample of 150 elementary school children. Data collection method using accidental sampling. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and documentation using a Likert scale and rating scale.  The results of the study found that there was a significant effect of the intensity of smartphone use on nomophobia in elementary school children at SDN Komplek IKIP and SDN Komplek IKIP 1 Makassar.  The influence of the intensity of smartphone use on nomophobia is 83%, while 17% is influenced by other factors.
