The Use of social media Among English Education Students for Solving Problems in Completing Their Theses

Abstract


This research used a descriptive-qualitative approach to shed light on: (1) the types of social media used by English education students for solving problems in completing their theses; and (2) the effects of social media on English education students in completing their theses. The participants of this research were the students of English Education at FBS UNM, selected through purposive sampling. The researcher used semi-structured interviews to collect the data for this research. The findings of this research revealed that students used social media to solve problems in completing their theses, and the use of social media mostly had a positive effect on their ability to solve problems in completing their theses. It is evident from the various responses provided by the participants in this research. Additionally, there are types of social media used by students in the process of completing their theses, including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Instagram. This study also discovered the effects of social media, including easy and instant communication, timing allocation, sharing problems, and learning from various sources.
