Abstract


The problems in this research are: 1. What is the description of the students' speaking anxiety level at SMP Negeri 39 Bulukumba? 2. What is the description of the implementation of the self-talk technique to reduce anxiety in speaking in front of the class for students of SMP Negeri 39 Bulukumba? 3. Can the application of self-talk techniques reduce students' anxiety about speaking in front of the class at SMP Negeri 39 Bulukumba? This research approach is a quantitative approach to the type of experimental research with the True Experimental Design model. The population in this study, students of class IX SMP 39 Bulukumba, were 21 students and the research sample was 16 students which were divided into experimental and control groups, each of which consisted of 8 students. The sampling technique used is proportional random sampling. Data collection techniques were carried out using questionnaires and observation. Data analysis techniques using descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. So the results of the study show that: 1. The level of students' speaking anxiety before being given treatment was in the high category and after being given treatment the anxiety level in speaking in front of the class was reduced or was in the low category. 2. During the implementation of the self-talk technique students showed very high and high participation.
