The Existence of Sayo Dance in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province

Abstract

This study will provide an overview of how the existence of the Sayo dance in Kalumpang has been utilized to date. The main object of this research are; (1) Description of the existence of the Sayo Dance in Kalumpang, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi; (2) Performance of the Sayo dance in a traditional ceremony in Kalumpang, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi. From the research results it is known that; (1) Sayo Dance is a form of performance performed in a public place. In addition, the Kalumpang traditional sayo dance is different from other Kalumpang traditional rituals; (2) The Sayo dance has a high position because traditional ceremonies such as the Thabisan begin with the Sayo dance as an expression of good luck for the event, as well as traditional ceremonies such as the Thabisan which are held once every 8 years.
