Diction in The Language of Electronic-Based Posters About COVID-19 Prevention Education on social media

Abstract


This study is a qualitative research that aims to describe: (a) the form of diction and (b) the function of diction in electronic-based poster language about Covid-19 prevention education on social media. This research was conducted from March to April 2022. The source of this research data is writing in electronic posters on social media. Data was collected using observation and documentation methods based on the predetermined poster selection indicators. Posters were analyzed using text analysis techniques through five stages, namely (1) reading the transcript of the data, (2) classifying the data, (3) analyzing and interpreting the data, (4) presenting the data, and (5) drawing conclusions. The results of the study revealed findings in the form and function of diction in the language of electronic-based posters about Covid-19 prevention education on social media. The forms of diction found consisted of nine forms which included synonymous words, words with denotation and connotation meaning, general words and special words, foreign words or terms, abstract words and concrete words, popular words and study words, slang, rhymes, and acronyms and abbreviations. The function of diction consists of five forms, namely clarifying the intent, creating the right style of expression, expressing emotions, giving the impression of beauty, and influencing the reader. The benefits of this research are in the form of theoretical benefits and practical benefits
