Abstract


The aim of this research was to find out the classroom management challenge of the English pre-service teachers in their teaching practice. The research was considered as reflective practice and serves as an important asset for the pre-service teachers and lecturers of Micro Teaching course in English Education Study Program. The subjects of this research were English pre-service teacher who was taking their PPL Program at Islamic Junior High School of al-Junaidiyah Biru Bone of that consisted of two participants. The data of this research was obtained by using interview and observation as instruments. The result of this research that there were several classroom management challenges experienced by the English pre-service teachers during their teaching practice. Those challenge were; 1. Hard to move students’ seating arrangement; 2. The students are not obedient to the rules and routines; 3. The students ignore the pre-service teachers’ instruction or caution; 4. Get difficulty in understanding the characteristic of the students; 5. The students did not pay attention and not respect to their teacher (pre-service teacher); 6. Get difficulty in controlling the class. From those challenge, there were seven strategies to handle those problems. Those strategies were: 1. Being friendly; 2. Providing personal approach; 3. Treating the students patiently; 4. Making agreements and rules; 5. Giving warning to the students; 6. Being an assertive teacher; 7. Ignoring the misbehavior students.
