The Correlation Among Students’ Motivation, Perception, And Attitude Toward English Learning Achievement at Senior High School

Abstract


This study was conducted to find out: 1) the students' motivation, perceptions, and attitudes in English learning and English achievement; 2) The correlation between student motivation and their English learning; 3) The correlation between students' perceptions and their English learning achievement; 4) The correlation between students' attitude and their English learning achievement; 5) The correlation among students' motivation, perception, and attitude toward their English learning achievement. The population in this study were students of senior high school with a population of 148 students. Sample was selected by random sampling technique with a sample of 30 students. The data were collected by using questionnaires and test. The data analysis was used quantitative descriptive techniques, Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis, and SPSS 23. Based on the results of data analysis, it was known that 1) The percentage of students' motivation is in high category, the percentage of students' perceptions is in positive category, and the percentage of students' attitude is in positive category, and the percentage of students' English achievement is in very good category. 2) There is a strong correlation between student motivation (X1) and their English learning achievement (Y). The alternative (Ha) is accepted. 3) There is no correlation between students' perception (X2) and their English learning achievement (Y). The null hypothesis (N0) is accepted. 4) There is a strong correlation between students' attitude (X3) and their English learning achievement (Y). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. 5) There is a strong correlation among students' learning motivation, perception, and attitude (X) simultaneously toward their English learning achievement (Y).
