Abstract


This study aims to reveal the forms of capitalism and class consciousness in the novel Orang-Orang Project by Ahmad Tohari. Forms of capitalism are described using Karl Marx's view as a scalpel. The research data was processed with the stages of identification, classification, analysis and interpretation, as well as a description of the findings. The object of this research are texts that contain forms of capitalism and class consciousness. This research focuses on two problem formulations, namely: How is the phenomenon of capitalism in Ahmad Tohari's Orang-Orang Project novel. The results of the analysis show that  the phenomenon of capitalism in the novel Orang-Orang Project by Ahmad Tohari describes the economic system, and the power system. The secret of capitalism is that political forces have been turned into economic relations for self-interest. Marx developed his literary social theory by stating that the most important human activity is economic activity or the production of material elements. This shows a material sociological framework, namely that the economy is a factor in the termination of human life with the social structure of society. Through class awareness shows that groups who realize that their position is with the proletariat, at that time they consciously carried out various kinds of awareness efforts towards the proletariat. the bourgeoisie. This inter-class conflict then gave birth to changes in society. In the novel Orang-Orang Project by Ahmad Tohari, all forms of capitalism are revealed which are marked in a number of quotes contained in the novel.
