The Role of Motivation and Coaching as an Effort to Develop Skills for Students with Disabilities at Special Schools in Makassar City

Abstract


This study is a qualitative, a phenomenological research, that aims to discover the description of Vocational Education in schools, as well as the role of motivation and coaching in SLB Negeri 1 Makassar. The focus and subjects of the study were teachers and students in schools who are directly involved in skills class activities. Data were collected by employing purposive sampling, by interviewing six (6) skills teachers and ten (10) disabilities students who took skills classes at school. The results of the data were obtained by employing semi-structured interviews and documentation related to all learning processes in an effort to develop students’ skills. The data analysis techniques employed data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The data of the results of the study obtained from all the informants' answers and the appropriate documentation results, namely the SLB Negeri 1 Makassar, has described the description of Vocational Education in schools by applying the types of skills for students’ competence, as well as providing motivation and guidance that is useful for developing students’ skills as an effort to develop competence in business.
