Abstract

Thisreflectionon The Problems of the History of Philosophy seeks to make a historical survey, highlighting those key challenges that are really problematic for both philosophy and philosophers themselves throughout the ages. As each problem is being tackled, another problem springs up from the efforts being made to resolve an already existing one. This work, therefore, calls for the adoption of an openness of heart to accept these problems, as they would in turn become instrumentum laboris (instrument of labor) in the hands of philosophers. This research strongly holds that problems strengthen and beautify philosophy in her quest to unravel and understand reality. Therefore, those problems in the history of philosophy, from mythology to philosophy, are philosophical splendor and not problems as such. Philosophers’ variegated approaches to addressing issues with diverse views and positions help to sustain philosophy, and apparently, philosophy thrives on them. Analytical, historical, textual, and contextual research methods are employed in this study.
