Pemanfaatan pekarangan dengan budidaya sayuran untuk pemberdayaan keluarga miskin di Kabupaten Sidrap

Abstract

A house garden is potential to be managed for the
cultivation of vegetables for the fulfillment of nutrition and a
relative reduction in the cost of living of poor families. The
condition of the land and the limited knowledge and life skills
of the poor in the Maritengngae District, Sidrap Regency,
became the main limiting factor for the use of the garden for
cultivation. The Community Service-Learning and Community
Empowerment activity program (KKN = PPM) of UNM
organized program for target families to provide knowledge
and skills in the manufacture of organic fertilizers and
cultivation of hydroponic systems. The goal was achieved by
using training methods, demonstration plots and mentoring.
The activities that were realized included: a) increased
knowledge and skills of target residents in making organic
fertilizer from household waste, and vegetable cultivation of
hydroponic systems; and b) fulfillment of the need for several
types of vegetables through utilization of the garden for
cultivation. If this activity is sustainable and well developed,
then the needs for the vegetable foodstuffs of the target
residents will be fulfilled independently.
