Pameran kaligrafi kontemporer sebagai media pembelajaran tipografi di Nusa Pustaka Kabupaten Polewali Mandar

Abstract

This program was an effort to introduce the
typography to the public through an exhibition of calligraphy.
The combination of typography and Islam produces
monumental works that we often find in the form of
calligraphy. Typographic acculturation with Arabic letters is
then known more widely through calligraphy works which are
found in monumental artifacts in the form of places of
worship, buildings to tombs. This exhibition took place in
Nusa Pustaka, Pambusuang Village, an area that is familiar
with the calligraphy in Polewali Mandar District. The
typography science component that is understood by the
people in the previous Pambusuang Village is the
classification of letter characters in calligraphy known as Khat.
In a typographic perspective, the development of calligraphy
today is not limited to khat-khat as we commonly have known.
It can be developed into contemporary calligraphy. In carrying
out this Community Service program, the works of
contemporary calligraphy chosen for display were the works
of Aziz Ahmad. Aziz Ahmad's calligraphy works are different
from the calligraphy grips that we have seen previously. Aziz
Ahmad's calligraphy works combine drawings with Arabic
letter calligraphy. By displaying Azis Ahmad's work, the
community was invited to recognize different letter characters
with calligraphy grips, as well as to introduce typography to
the public through observing the character of letters in the
presented calligraphy works.
