Abstract


Abstract: The problem in this research is how to use the Discussion method in improving Social Studies learning outcomes of Grade V students of SD Inpres Taring, Biringbulu District, Gowa Regency. The purpose of this study was to improve social studies learning outcomes of students in class V of SD Inpres Taring, Biringbulu Subdistrict, Gowa Regency by using the discussion method. This research is a classroom action research whose implementation was designed into 2 cycles. Each cycle has several stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were students in the fifth grade of SD Inpres Taring, Biringbulu Subdistrict, Gowa Regency, amounting to 40 people. Data collection techniques in this study were tests of learning outcomes and observations, then analyzed using qualitative descriptive. The results of the study show that using the Discussion method can improve student learning outcomes in social studies subjects. This can be seen from the activeness of students in learning that has increased, including working together in solving a problem given by the teacher, paying attention to the problem, concluding the problem in his own way based on the initial knowledge possessed and concluding learning. This has an impact on student social studies learning outcomes where the average value in cycle I is still considered lacking. Then in the second cycle, the deficiencies found in the first cycle can be overcome so that there is an increase in student activity followed by an increase in the average value of social studies learning outcomes that is better than the first cycle to the second cycle. Where in Cycle I shows that the percentage of student mastery learning after being taught by the discussion method is 62.50% or there are 25 people who fall into the incomplete category and 37.50% or 15 people who fall into the complete category. Whereas in Cycle II shows that the percentage of students' mastery learning after being taught with the discussion method is 12.50% or there are 5 people who fall into the incomplete category and 87.50% or 35 people who fall into the complete category. From the results of this study it can be concluded that by using the Discussion method, the social studies learning outcomes of students in Class V of SD Taring, Biringbulu District, Gowa Regency can increase. Therefore, it is recommended that the implementation of learning using the method of discussion, can be used as an alternative learning social studies in elementary schools so that student learning outcomes increase.
