Abstract

ABSTRACT

Intestinal helminth disease is a public health problem in Indonesia. Worms affect the intake (intake), digestion (digestive), absorption (absorption), and food metabolism. One of the plants  has anthelmintic properties is bangle (Zingiber purpureum Roxb.). The use of Ascaris suum is easy to obtain and has similarities with Ascaris lumbricoides which has zoonotic potential and causes ascariasis. The study was conducted at the Parasitology Unit of the  NIHRD Donggala, using the experimental method with the post test only control group design, the sample was only measured at the end of the test using 11 Ascaris suum roundworms obtained from the Jonoo Oge RPH. Sigi.  The material used was pure bangle extract obtained from the method of direct extraction of fresh bangle as much as 200 mL. Positive and negative control using albendazole and 0.9% NaCl solution. Worm deaths at concentrations of 12%, 16%, and 20% were seen at the 12th hour observation. Positive control (albendazole) indicates the 12th hour of observation. There were no death controls until 12 hours of observation. The presence of antihelmintic power in the bangle due to the presence of secondary metabolites such as phenylbutanoid compounds, curcumin, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, stereoids and terpenoids. The conclusion of this research is that pure bangle extract (Zingiber purpureum Roxb.) Has the potential to be developed as an anthelmintic traditional medicine.
