Formulasi Pasta Gigi Ekstrak Daun Jambu Biji dan Stevia Sebagai Antibakteri Alami

Abstract


ABSTRACT
Streptococcus mutans bacteria can cause dental caries. Caries can be avoided with the help with chemical compounds that can be obtained from guava leaves which have antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans. According to SNI number 12-3524-1995 which applies, toothpaste should not contain sucrose or other carbohydrate derivatives that can be fermented. Based on that, the toothpaste formulation of guava leaf extract and stevia a sweetener has been made. The research method used a completely randomized design with two factorials. The first factor is that guava leaf extract that formulated in toothpaste as an active agent with variations (2%; 2.5%; 3.5%; and 4.5%). Meanwhile, the second factor is stevia extract as a natural sweetener that does not cause caries with variations (2; 1%; 1.5%; 2%). A good toothpaste will have great stability during storage. Stability testing was carried out by testing the antibacterial activity and homogeneity of the preparation every week for 3 weeks. From the product of preparation toothpaste, the highest antibacterial activity or inhibition of toothpaste against Streptococcus mutans was formula F3, with diameter 25mm. In the stability test, all formulas of toothpaste were homogeneous which was indicated by the absence of lumps, an even structure and a uniform color.
